Album Review: Nakhane Toure - Brave Confusion

When I first heard about some of the people in my circles speaking about Nakhane Toure, I never really knew he was until I listened to his music…He is a man with a musical talent and definitely going place in the music scene.

As much as I don’t know him personally, I feel as if I already know basically by having listened to his album. I bought his album last week and I placed it on the trolley, after having packed all my goods in the car, I left the trolley with the CD inside and I immediately jumped into my car and drove off.  As I was about to exit the mall, I realised I left the CD in the trolley and I was contemplating whether to turn back or not and eventually, something within told me to turn back and I did. I found the CD in the same trolley as it was about to be taken away by the trolley guys.

As soon as I got it, it went it my CD player and it took me on a journey home. At first, I was a bit distracted, but after having listened to it all week, I fell in love with the album. I found it to be deep and spiritual with different elements ranging into it.

One of the things which I said to myself was ‘what a bold move this young lad has taken. He took a risk and it worked’. This 13 track album was mostly influenced by his influences in life has revealed his vocal abilities.

One of the things I admired about the artist was that even though he made references to religion on some of the songs, the musical journey in which he took his fans on was not in the form of gospel – but a style of his own.

Although growing up listening to Brenda Fassie and choral music which he said in his interview with Blaque  Magazine, the sounds to his album are nothing like choral music or Brenda Fassie  even though he did mention in Blaque magazine that one of the songs was actually inspired by Brenda.

This young lad definitely has a future with in the music industry. One who doesn’t understand his music would say this is one, brave confusion!
