The spear sparks controversy.

The controversial painting of the president has caused political and racial uproar. Popular social network, twitter has been abuzz over the last couple of days with people showing outrage of how “disrespectful” the painting was while others have simply justified it as practising one of the most fundamental rights which is freedom of expression.

Understandably, perhaps, people will show outrage as people are raised differently and see things differently. However, I think that the ‘battle’ that this painting has caused should be fought by the president and his family and not the entire presidency.

I also think that this painting has evoked emotions and rubbed salt on wounds that have been battling to heal. It also revealed that South Africans are two-faced. Had it been F. W De Klerk on the painting, maybe, just maybe, the reaction would have been different.

Let me know what do you think.

A fashion weekly for SA….Grazia!

I was suppose to post this last week but due to the heavy workload, I'm only doing it today.

I’m sure 'fashionistas' are glad that internationally acclaimed magazine - Grazia has finally occupied shelf space in South African retails. Gaining prominence in countries such as; UK and Italy where it was first started, the South African edition has dazzled it’s readers with local and international celebrity news, fashion and beauty tips. So girls, make sure you set aside R100 every month for it.

However, I thought a South African would grace the cover for the first issue since it is SA edition, but Rihanna scooped it.

Let’s wait and see what it has for fashionistas out there.

A day without my berry

I need to confess or rather oust myself on how I’m unable to function without my berry. Be that as it may, I know I’m not the only one, there’s thousands of us or even millions who won’t admit how addicted they are to social networks. And I’m one of them.

A couple of days ago, I mistakenly left my beloved berry at home and it was evident that it was one of the most among many terrible days I have ever had. On a bad day, I usually vent out on twitter or on facebook about what grinds my pancreas or simply spill out that bag of emotions that sits heavily in my heart, but on that day, I couldn’t.

In fact, all my emotions propelled me to write how annoying it is to see people tweeting or smiling with their phones. I actually understood why non-berry owners are forever uttering the bad things about blackberry when they’re actually suffering from a severe condition of FOMO (fear of missing out). Yes I’ll confess, the girl who was endlessly smiling with her phone that day who happened to sit next to me made me jealous, sick and actually, I got to a point where I wish I could make her blackberry disappear just until it hits 4pm when I would head home. But, alas, I wasn’t man enough to do such and my envy was slowly turning into a blackberry hater for a day, just like owners of other cellphone brands.

Very often you would hear owner of other cellphone brands throwing their not-so needed comments on blackberry and I’ve heard a lot of those, enough to write a 350 paged book on blackberry haters. Haters whom some have turned into lovers of the BB.  But, fear not, I won’t oust you. Not now anyway.  I actually understand the aggressiveness you showed towards us – blackberry users.

On that day, I was morosely sitting all alone not knowing what to do with myself and not even coffee could fill the void left by my blackberry. Even though my laptop was with me (which the internet was not a problem), I still felt like I was missing out or I was used to having a simplified version of a PC in my hand. How I forgot it still beats me today as it was my first time doing so.

Normally, in the morning I chuck everything in my shoulder bag (my other biggest obsession) – keys, phones, the works, but on that day, I must have made one terrible mistake after 2 and half years of owning a berry, a mistake which I shall never make again.

An All star favourite

Are those all stars??? Oh yes!
One of the classic things that never go out of fashion and just to be clear, this is not a fashion blog but when it comes to all stars, I can't help myself.

Chuck Taylors as other people call it have been around for years and like me, I like them dirty. However, I've often had to explain countless times to my friends as to why I like them dirty, but alas, they never understood.

Stick to the 'devil' you know

It’s probably cultural snobbery or sheer stupidity when someone invites you for something they’re clueless about. Maybe they’ve developed new tastes or style; however, I still say, it’s better to stick to the devil you know than cause a complete fool out of yourself.

Yes, I’m speaking about that perfectly made cup of coffee. To those that know me, they have probably heard about my moans and groans about coffee and those that know me very well, they’ll probably know that it’s also my first love (that’s what I call it).

Recently, I was invited by an old friend whom I have not seen in ages for coffee and a catch-up session. How excited I was the invite popped up, I couldn’t even contain my excitement.
Truth be told, I’m a coffee lover who has reached the connoisseur title yet, but I know a good cup of coffee when I taste and sometimes, when I see one and so I suggested a much closer date for an afternoon of good times and my friend suggested a coffee spot. It was a new spot for me and he had assured that they make the perfect cup.

Finally our day came. We get there and as usual, I start with a filter coffee, just to be on the safe side. Those who don’t know what a filter is – it’s just a normal coffee with or without milk. Reason for my reluctance in buying a cappuccino is I wouldn’t regrettably spend my 20 rand on something which taste more of frisco than a cappuccino, NO! That’s how much I value it and thank goodness I didn’t or else I probably would have died and come back 5 days later.

So our coffees arrive and the excitement I felt was indescribable, I somehow felt like a happy kid again, like I always do when I have that special cup and a good convo. Without a waste of time, my friend took the first sip of his and with a little anxiety coupled with a double shot of excitement; I took my first sip as well. With the expression of sadness in my face after that sip, I try again, thinking that maybe, just maybe, it’s a coffee brand I wasn’t familiar with so I took a second sip.  This time, it wasn’t a sip but rather a gulp and my critical thinking tool came up in full force together with my not so impressed face and some sadness in between. All these traits meant something and that something - the coffee was horrible and bitter, in fact, it made me grumpy the whole day and throughout the catch up session, I ended up schooling my friend about good coffee. How it must not be too hot or too cold. The poor guy felt like he was probably in a science lecture but he needed to hear it and it felt good to bore with my coffee experience, I felt like he deserved it for making a fool out of me.

However, I’m pretty sure he’s not the only one that has had his friends or associates as victims of such pathetic abuse where a friend would invite you of something that he or she has little knowledge of. I’m sure there’s gazillions of people who still think it’s a smart move. I still say and will say – stick to what you know.
