A blast from the past

While sitting at my desk curiously checking my facebook which I have been ignoring for the past weeks, I notice I have inboxes which needed a reply (well some needed to be deleted). I open them up with the curiosity of wanting to know who would want to send me an inbox.

Snap…It was a blast from the past. It was what could have been my ex, today, I think!

After 2 years of not seeing the little midget, I open this inbox with hesitation yet eager to find out what this person has to say.

After stalling for a few seconds, I eventually open it. It starts with a greeting. I’m itching to reply, but then I’m also tempted to leave it hanging and not reply at all. Alas, curiosity got the better of me – I replied wanting to find out what exactly does this blast from the past want.

After exchanging pleasantries, it dawns on me that what nearly became my lover, is coming back not to exchange pleasantries, but a chance to become an official solidified lover. Ha! Nice try. After the stunt you pulled last time, forget it. I said subconsciously.

However, I couldn’t leave that inbox hanging or else comments that I’m a coward would start loitering around the blast’s head.

So I start to sit and think of a possible yet not so vain answer to give to this poor soul. After a few minutes, I decide to dish out my famous line – ‘I’m waaaay to busy to have a relationship. My life is hectic. This is one of my famous lines I use when making an excuse. I further extend the text by asking; ‘Anyway, tell me something interesting that’s happened to your over the past 2 years since I last saw you.’ Yea, that’s how long it has been.

Hoping that I’ll hear something interesting, this is what pops up: ‘The interesting fact is; I loved you, and I still do. Please give me a chance’. I sighed. Not wanting to entertain this thought, I start being firm in a friendly way. Nice try, but not that. Tell me something that you have been doing, I said. And the reply was; ‘I’ve been loving you all along’.

After much frustration, I decided to remind them why I decided not go ahead with what I would have called today our relationship (if it had happened). I said; firstly, you lied saying you were single while there was someone occupying a seat in your life. Secondly, you decided that you wanted to show off by going with me to a place you knew very well that your ex-lover was going to be at, just to cause controversy! Thirdly, I’ve grown and I think you should, too.

After hitting the send button, I felt bad, but a part of me felt good. I quickly typed up another message and said; let’s keep it civil, tu. And eventually, the blast from the past got the message (well… so I thought).

After a few minutes, a friendship agreement was made, but then I was asked to go clubbing, and upon our return, we would go to the same place as it would be too late to drive.  I sighed, again. I eventually blocked the midget and logged off facebook.

Some ex’s or what could have been potential lovers never get the message. So, dear readers, whenever you get a blast from the past, ignore, ignore and ignore.

Jub Jub court case causes a stir

Gone are the days where the singer, Molemo Mahoranye also known as Jub Jub will drape in his red-carpet attire, as from yesterday, he was probably given the prison uniform along with his co-accused, Themba Shabalala.

Jub Jub who rose to fame at an early age was allegedly drag racing under the influence of drugs and crashed into a group of school children who were on their way back from school in 2010, in Soweto.

People took to twitter expressing their support for those families of those involved in the crash while others warned how it could happen to them. Siyabonga Metane also known as Slikour, the South African rapper said; ‘Prayers for Jub Jub, sympathy for the families in my opinion as painful as it is two wrongs don’t make a right. Good luck brother’

Another tweet from the rapper went as; ‘Justice should prevail fair but I’m human I feel sorry for a colleague n the family that lost. I’m not an amimal with hate I got heart for all of them’.

These tweets certainly caused abrupt and people retaliated by saying; ‘Slikour think he NOSE a lot’.

‘Slikour should exercise his right to keep quiet’

Just listened to her new track 'losing you'. Love this girl!

The friends we keep!

It’s 4am, and I’ve just staggered into my place from Long Street, in Town. Even though I feel like sleeping somehow I can’t. I’m thinking about what had transpired earlier this evening.

A friend of ours stood us up while we planned something special for him. It was a surprise and it was ruined. A serious case of miscommunication! This propelled me to write about them informing them of their personality traits. I hope they read it and hopefully, change those personality traits I dislike.

I mean, I have great friends who would willingly jump at the chance to help me in times of trouble. And yes, I have friends who will cry with me when I do, but their personalities leave me wonder where is that good person I cried with when trouble erupted? We all have friends who you think ‘but his arrogance grinds my pancreas’ or ‘his show-off stunts is breaking our friendship’. I do have friends that I wish I could remove certain personality traits from, and here they are:

Sabelo, one of my best friends, he’s arrogant (and lots of people have been caring enough to notify him), but he’s a good friend. He cares. At times, his arrogance gets to me and make me contemplate giving him a smack in the head just for control. Alas, I cannot. It’s a personality trait one has to learn to live with. His family has also learned to live with it. But friend, please do tone down a bit.

Lungisa, another best friend of mine, such a sweet soul but at times, I wish I could remove his ‘No one will ever do anything to me, I will fight them spirit’. Dude, we care about you. Stop trying to be brave, it’s the 21st century, and men are allowed to be weak and cry. We won’t judge you. So, whenever an act of violence occurs, keep calm and pull yourself towards yourself.

Another good friend of mine is Mzamo. Sweet human being whom I think got corrupted by us along the way. He listens, crunches numbers and one of the sane people in the group. However, sometimes he lets his feelings be the judge of a situation. Guy, relax! Live a little, and don’t take everything seriously.

The friends I have are hard to keep up with, and this one is definitely one of the most energetic people I treasure – Lisa. He’s one good friend whose number is on speed dial on my phone. If anything happens to me, he’s in the top three people I would call. But, I wish he would stop talking before thinking how it will affect the next person. I’ve often reprimanded him of how rude he is (not in a bad way) but he speaks without thinking at times. Maybe that’s because he’s into numbers as well. Sigh. The friends I keep.

The last one I will mention is Thando. He is such a happy soul with a mind full of positive (and negative) things. He’s humble, respectful but he also has a personality trait which I wish I could remove from him. Thando likes to assess things, especially food. Last week we went out and he blatantly analysed his meal with his fingers. Imagine!  He removed certain bits and ate others. Child, turn a blind eye and eat! Finish and Klaar and stop being (tjatjarag!).
This post was written with the love I have for my friends and after this post, hopefully they will change their ways.

Of course, I have other friends which are perfectly sane like Aisha, Memory (sometimes) and others which I have forgotten.

Khaya Mthethwa is announced as the winner for South African idols 2012. The 23 year old who is part of joyous celebration made history by being the first black male to win the competition.

Twitter has been abuzz for the past week with media personalities and Khaya's fans encouraging their followers to vote. Some went as far as downloading mxit.

Congratulations Khaya! :-)

My girl, Solange Knowles.

Solange shoots 'Losing you' in Cape Town

My crush, Solange Knowles recently shot a video for her new song titled; 'Losing you'. It was shot in August and it was Solange being usual self; playing with colour.

I absolutely love this girl and her new song has definitely made me her number one fan.

Here is what she said: "When Melina and I decided to film 'Losing You' in South Africa, we really didn't have a real firm concept in place. It was sort of a grab a camera and let's go moment. I knew I wanted to capture a couple things: the vibe of our friendship and all of the crazy escapades we've gotten ourselves into all over the world, and the abstract and elegant Le Sape Society (Society for the Advancement of People of Elegance) formed in the Congo which was documented by Daniele Tamagni in his Gentleman of Bacongo book.  We called Daniele to guide us, and some of my friends from New York came down to Cape Town and we all had a very damn good time."
